Same problem here.
I love my Savage but I find it light and underpowered for freeways, which, unfortunately, always seem to be connected to the great country roads around here (SF Bay Area). So next year I'm going to look at the Intruders, a Yamaha or two, maybe even a Harley 1200. The nice thing about the Intruders is that they handle as well as the Savage.
By the way, Motorcyle Online has some great comparison tests of cruisers, including one with the Intruder 1400 (Open Cruiser Comparison). It blew away all of its peers in the test on account of 1400!!! ccs, light weight, and superior handling. Of course, it doesn't look as cool as the others, so its overall score put in the middle of the pack.
